7 Gutter Sins to Avoid at all Costs

Your gutters do a lot to protect you and your home, but only if you treat them right! Make sure that you’re not committing any of these costly gutter maintenance mishaps or worst, overlooking them!
1. Leaving the eaves vulnerable. Professional installers, like those here at All Aluminum, install a boundary between your roof’s wooden beams and your gutter system. This is called flashing, and it ensures that the wood will be safe from dry rot, termites and more.

2. Falling short on the pitch. While they might appear straight, gutters are actually installed on a slight angle to guide water downward. When that pitch isn’t large enough, water will fail to funnel and will pool. Generally, gutters should slope a half an inch every 10 feet.

3. Missing the downspout mark. Proper placement is essential. You want to make sure that you choose a location that’s free and clear of foliage so that water can easily flow down and out. If your home is fairly large, consider adding more than one downspout.

4. Forgetting to redirect. Your gutters may be catching rainwater and funneling it downward, but if you fail to put a system in place to redirect water safely away from your foundation, you’ll find yourself in a bind. Splash blocks are a great and simple solution!

5. Ignoring gutter clogs. A blockage in your gutter system is the first indicator that your gutters are in distress. Failing to address and clear a clog can result in costly consequences, like rust, mold, roof damage, siding erosion and even pest infestations.

6. Neglecting neighboring foliage. Keeping your gutters clean is not just about removing debris once it makes it’s way in. You should be taking preventative measures, like pruning unruly trees and bushes regularly, to prevent leaves and debris from clogging them from the start.

7. Failing to call for repairs.
It’s a simple concept: If you see something, say something! Check on your gutters often, looking for sagging, leaking, rusting, water staining on the siding, or any other indication that something has gone awry. Then, call the pros!

Could your gutter system use a good cleaning? Perhaps they could even use a few repairs? If so, All Aluminum Gutters is the best gutter cleaning and repair company for the job!

Which Gutter Material is Right for My Home?

All Aluminum Gutters
531 Sunrise Highway, West Babylon, New York 11704
(631) 816-2498

Sifting through your material options when performing home improvement tasks can be a long and difficult process, and selecting a rain gutter style is no exception. That’s why we’ve tried to make it a bit easier for you by narrowing down the basics for each of the three most popular gutter materials available.
Vinyl - If an easy install is what you’re after, vinyl is your best choice. Vinyl gutters simply snap together without requiring any sealants, but the material itself is known for expanding and contracting with the temperature change. If you live in an area that experiences drastic weather differences, you may want to select a different option. Vinyl gutters also don’t usually fare well in areas that tend to get a lot of heavy snow, ice or rain.

Aluminum - Just a smidge higher in price than vinyl, aluminum gutters come in as the most common gutter material used overall. Its durability, versatility and affordable price point definitely helped take this gutter material to the top of most homeowners’ lists. It’s available in several different thickness options, making it customizable to your area’s weather conditions. Plus, aluminum gutters can be installed completely seamless, reinforcing your home’s drainage system and boosting its curb appeal in the process.

Copper - If you’re looking to make a statement, copper is the gutter materials for you and your home. Not only are copper gutters stunning, but they’re naturally rust resistant and are known for being long-lasting. The only additional upkeep necessary is a periodical resealing to keep them from oxidizing and losing their shine -- unless of course, you’re after that natural patina!

At All Aluminum Gutters, we provide a wide variety of gutter installation options, including both copper and aluminum materials. Serving all of Long Island, Queens, the Bronx, Westchester and the surrounding areas, there’s no gutter installation or repair job we can’t handle!

Are My Gutters Damaging My Roof?

All Aluminum Gutters
531 Sunrise Highway, West Babylon, New York 11704
(631) 816-2498

Rain gutters are your home’s first line of defense against Mother Nature’s most destructive force -- water. That being said, it’s easy to see why we stress the importance of keeping them clear of leaves, dirt and even unwelcome pests, to keep the channel for waterflow wide open. Not only are gutters responsible for catching and redirecting rainwater away from your home’s siding and foundation, but they do a great deal to help protect your roof as well.
When gutters are clogged or damaged they’re unable to function properly, causing water and debris to pool and pile on your roof. Overtime, this can lead to leaking, rot, mold and more. So, this begs the question -- are your gutters doing more to damage your roof than protect it? In order to be sure, ask yourself these two simple questions:

When was the last time I cleaned my gutters?
If you’re having trouble pinpointing the last time you climbed up that ladder -- gloves, spade and debris bucket in tow -- there’s a chance your roof is in danger. As we mentioned earlier, the longer your gutters are left unattended, the greater the risk of roof damage becomes.

Are my gutters clean and clear? Or are they filled with debris?
Maybe you cleaned your gutters back in April while checking off your seasonal spring cleaning list, but that doesn’t mean they’re still in tip top shape -- especially with all the wind and rain we’ve been having on Long Island! Checking your gutters regularly is key!

Is your home in need of gutter cleaning services? If so, it’s All Aluminum Gutters to the rescue! Serving all of Long Island, Queens, Westchester and the Bronx, there’s no gutter repair or cleaning job that we can’t handle.

Why Seamless Gutters Are Worth It

All Aluminum Gutters
531 Sunrise Highway, West Babylon, New York 11704
(631) 816-2498

When selecting a gutter system for your home, you’re probably looking for two things: functionality and curb appeal. We don’t blame you! Lucky for you, seamless aluminum gutters have both qualities all wrapped into one -- and then some!
Curb Appeal - Seamless gutters are just how you would imagine -- seamless. Each piece is custom cut to the exact length of your exterior walls. That way, you’ll have a sleek look from any angle.

Easy Installation -
Since they’re cut-to-fit, seamless gutters also happen to be one of the more easier options when it comes to installation. However, since each section can be several feet long, it takes a few people to hold and secure the gutters in place, so we don’t recommend you DIY.

Long-Lasting - There’s nothing quite as durable as an aluminum gutter system, but even more so when it’s seamless. Less connective points means there are less opportunities for leaking, sagging and rusting to occur. On average, seamless gutter can last up to 30 years.

Since they’re custom made, seamless aluminum gutters are certainly a bit more pricey, but they’re certainly still affordable. After all, the price you pay now can save you money on the price you pay for water damage caused by a faulty gutter system in the future.

All Aluminum Gutters is your one stop shop for all your gutter cleaning, gutter repair and gutter installation needs! Serving all of Nassau County, Suffolk County, Queens, Westchester and the Bronx, we also handle roofing and siding installation and repair. 3 Surprising Gutter Issues in Summer

All Aluminum Gutters
531 Sunrise Highway, West Babylon, New York 11704
(631) 816-2498

You’ve made it through the worst of gutter season -- or so you thought. While you may be done worrying about leaf buildup and ice dams, you’re not completely off the hook for summer gutter maintenance, and here’s why.
Falling Foliage - You may be thinking -- isn’t that only in autumn? Well, while it’s definitely more common to see clogs when trees are shedding their leaves completely, we certainly still see some foliage clogs during the summer. Think about those beautiful blossoms that are popping up and floating down everywhere, and the polynoses propelling down from the trees -- all gutter hazards!

Heavy Rain -
Let’s face it, summer is jam-packed with humidity, and while we’d love for the sun to be shining every day, thunderstorms are inevitable. That being said, rains can be pretty heavy in the summer, which can be damaging to a gutter system not equipped to handle so much rainfall.

Mold Growth - Fallen foliage and heavy rain, plus the hot summer sun? Mold is sure to follow suit. Be careful to keep your gutters clear of debris to deter bacteria and mold growth from taking over. Remember, if mold can grow on your home’s exterior, it will eventually find its way inside too.

Maybe you’ve got a ton of trees in your yard depositing pollen and polynoses into your gutters, or maybe you’ve noticed your system has taken quite the beating from recent spring showers. Whatever the case may be, All Aluminum Gutters is your one stop shop for all your gutter cleaning, gutter repair and gutter installation needs!
